Sister June worked for over 50 years at Saint Vincent’s Academy in Newark, where she was English teacher, program director, vice principal, administrative director and president of St. Vincent Academy, Inc. Her obituary said, “Known as the heart and soul of Saint Vincent Academy, Sister June dedicated her life to the education and empowerment of young women.” She won Princeton University’s Prize for Distinguished Secondary School Teaching for her work at the school in 1973. In 2026 a street was named in her honor.
Sister June was born in Teaneck. She lived in Cliffside Park with her parents and two sisters and attended Saint Cecilia High School. She earned a Bachelor’s in English at the College of Saint Elizabeth and a Master’s in English and Communication arts from Notre Dame. She taught at several other schools before coming to Saint Vincent’s in 1969.
