Rose Danzis was the daughter of Max Danzis, a founder of Beth Israel Hospital and Jennie Danzis, Ukrainian Jewish immigrants. She was married to Eugene Parsonnet, a cardiologist, and her son was Victor Parsonnet, renowned heart surgeon.
Rose was involved with music throughout her life, “The house was filled with a Steinway grand, famed musicians from around the world and the sounds of classical music” (SL, Dec 9, 2003). She taught piano and performed as part of the Arion Trio on the piano in the 1930s. She established a music school in 1936 with Arthur Mendel that lasted until WWII. She continued to accompany music students in recitals until she was 88 and instituted an annual chamber music series for the YMHA.
Rose was active in the NJ League of Women Voters, and was President of the NJ Chapter of the National Council for Jewish Women. She also served as a nurses aide during WWII at Beth Israel.
Rose attended Morton Street School, South Side High School and Wellesley College. Before marriage, she worked as a social worker. She was also known for outstanding needlework in later years.
