Mary Goretti Boland was director of the AIDs program at the Children’s Hospital of New Jersey in Newark. She co-founded the program with Dr. James Oleske and was honored internationally for her work with children with AIDs. She said, “I am very impressed with the deep strengths shown by families of AIDS victims…I am always encouraged whenever I can be of meaningful assistance to these people…What we’ve been able to accomplish is due to the whole team working together.”
The Children’s Hospital program became the FXB Center at UMDNJ which Mary directed until 2005, when she became dean of the school of nursing in Hawaii, retiring in 2021.
Mary previously worked for Ironbound Community Corporation’s Health Screening Van, which was the first such van in the state.
Mary was born in Ireland and moved with her family to Philadelphia as a child, attending UPenn and Seton Hall.
