1925-2003

Marie Bagby (1925-2003) was a teacher starting in 1944, and eventually principal at Barringer, West Side and University High Schools, before retiring in 1991.

Marie also served on the board of St. Michael’s Medical Center, the affirmative action committee of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, the executive board of the Newark Principal’s Association, as corresponding secretary of the Women’s League of New Jersey and as recording secretary of the City Administrators and Supervisor’s Association.

She was a member of the Essex County Retired Educator’s Association and treasurer of the Alpha Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. She was also treasurer of the Four Seasons Club and on the credit committee of the Newark Board of Education Credit Union.

Marie was a lifelong Newark resident and Central High graduate, class of January 1942. She had a masters in educational psychology from NYU and completed other post-graduate studies at Seton Hall. In Newark, she lived on Hoyt Street.
