The Sunday Call claimed Marjorie Sweet was the first licensed woman automobile driver in NJ. She became a car saleswoman at a young age in Perth Amboy. She graduated business school and became a secretary but soon became an automobile statistician with the Standard Oil Company.
Later, Marjorie she became head of the Research and Statistical Departments of Class Journal Company in New York. She was a sales promotion manager, and then worked at Chase National Bank for a year before moving into bonds.
Majorie was only bond saleswoman in New Jersey as of 1927, and lived in Newark from at least 1915. In 1927, she worked for Hambleton & Co as a bond saleswoman, as well as a financial advisor, specifically helping women with investments. Also called first woman investment counselor in the state. She was President of the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Newark.
Later, Majorie was the exec manager of the residential and civic divisions of the Welfare Federation of Newark and Manager of Throckmorton and Co. of New York.
She was appointed Exec Director of the Bloomfield Red Cross in 1959.
