Irene Morris worked for the Board of Health for over 25 years.
She graduated from Mercy Hospital in Philadelphia with the class of 1922.
Listed as a nurse in city directories from 1923 and appointed as a visiting nurse for the Board of Health March 1926, and a nurse at Newark City Hospital August 1926, both temporary appointments. Listed as a visiting nurse in Health Department reports 1927-1929, and a nurse or “Public Health Nurse” in city directories and censuses through her death, associated with the Board of Health.
In 1938, New Jersey Herald News called her “a trained nurse connected with the Board of Health” and in 1939 “a very practical city nurse”.
Born in Newark, she lived at 39 Chester Avenue for many years & was the sister of Mildred Morris Williams.
A member of the Phyllis Wheatley Society. Secretary of the North Jersey Nurses Graduate Association. President of the Community Hospital Auxiliary. She was also secretary of the Freedman Hospital Nurse’s Alumni Club.
