Helen Berry was very active in Essex County Republican politics and a member of the Essex County Board of Elections. From 1920-1924, she was vice chairman of the Essex County Republican Committee. From 1926, she was a member of the Republican State Committee, serving as Vice Chairman (1927-1931). In 1938, she was appointed to the Essex County Board of Elections by Gov. Moore, after a controversy between Berry and Edith Kreutzinger.
Helen was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1924 and 1928 and appointed to the State Board of Health in 1927.
In March 1929, Helen helped organize the Federation of Republican Women’s Club. She had been a founded of the New Jersey Women’s Clubs. She was appointed to a commission created by the Legislature to study employment of migratory children in New Jersey. She served on the legislative committees of the Essex County Women’s Republican Club and the Contemporary Club.
Helen also served on the board of the Newark chapter of the Red Cross and the East Side Day Nursery.
Helen was born in Ohio, came to Newark in 1900.
