1860-1943

Frances Rippel was president of the Home for Aged and Respectable Women from 1929-1934, and a longterm board member and volunteer.

Frances was president of the Heidelberg Guild of the First Reformed Church. She was also active in the Newark Museum, NJ Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. She worked for the Red Cross during World War I.

Frances was born in Chatham, according to her obituary, but is living in Newark by the time of the 1870 census and through 1940. As a child she lived at 15 Baldwin Street, her father was a Newark jeweler. She married Julius Rippel in 1896.

Frances’s husband established the Fannie Rippel Foundation in her honor. The foundation is still active today.
