1836-1935, 1866-1935

Frances and Eliza Coult were a mother and daughter who died within 24 hours of each out in 1935. They were the mother and sister of Margaret Coult and wife and daughter of Joseph Coult, Newark counsel. The family lived in Woodside and then at 58 Mount Pleasant Ave.

Frances lived to be 99 and was active in Christ Reformed Church in Newark and enjoyed bridge. She was born and taught school in Sussex County. Profiled by the Newark News after her 99th birthday she said, she didn’t understand why anyone was so excited about her age.

Eliza was born in Sussex County but graduated Newark High School in 1883 and Newark Normal School in 1884, when her essay was featured at the graduation ceremony. She is listed at Summer Avenue School by 1886, apparently starting to teach sooner than her older, more well-known sister Margaret. Eliza taught in the school system for 47 years and was Vice Principal of Summer Ave. School.
