1913-2006
Born in Pleasantdale, NJ but lived in Newark by 1930 and in the Ironbound at 101 Hawkins St by 1950, after her first husband died, and for the rest of her life.
Teacher’s aide at Hawkins Street School for many years. Ran the Trinity Reformed Church food pantry for many years at least from the 1980s.
She received many honors for her work at the food pantry including from the Ironbound Ecumenical Association, the Junior League of Montclair and Newark, and Ironbound Community Corporation. She also worked with ICC on other environmental issues like Riverbank Park and chemical contamination in the Ironbound.
A small garden in Riverbank Park is named in her honor.
