Dr. Linda Caldwell Epps grew up in Elizabeth and has a long connection to Newark. She graduated from Douglass College in 1973.

Dr. Epps served as President and CEO of the NJ Historical Society, in Newark. She’s also served as a consultant to various colleges, funded by the Ford Foundation, and held various positions at Bloomfield College including VP of College Relations. Later, she was Vice President for Institutional Relations at New Jersey Network Television and Radio.

Currently, Dr. Epps is President and CEO of 1804 Consultants and a founding partner of the Sankofa Collaborative, “an organization dedicated to helping individuals, schools, museums, and libraries present, research, discuss, and interpret, African American history and culture.”

Dr. Epps also has served on the Board of Newark organizations like NJPAC Theater Square Development Board, Bethany Baptist Church, and many others. She was very active in the James Street neighborhood for many years.

She has won many awards including the 2019 Beulah Oliphant Award for NJ History, the 2018 Woman of the Year Award from Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, and the Shirley Chisholm Award in the Arts of the Essex County Civic Club.
