First woman in Newark to head a city governing board. Elected in 1917 as President of the Recreation Commission, after being appointed for the start of 1916 by Mayor Raymond.

She was head of the New Jersey Vacation Committee organized in 1914: a vacation savings fund. In 1915 she founded the Alpha Kappa Jam Kitchen, where women made jams, allowing young women to invest and have extra income. She was president of the Hotel Caroline, a home for working girls. She was on the women’s Committee of Fifty for Newark’s 250th Anniversary. During World War I, chairman of the Newark Woman’s Committee of the National Council of Defense.

Alice was born in Newark and in 1900 to Judge Andrew Kirkpatrick lived at 91 Lincoln Park with 5 siblings and 3 servants. In 1910 she lived at 47 South Street with one of the servants listed as “Companion”. In 1915, they live in the same place. By 1923, she had moved to Manhattan. Her 1930 census states she is “Retired”. She died in 1951. She was buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
