1936-
Early Star Ledger writer, born in Newark, daughter of Parks and Property Director Pearce Franklin.
In June 1953, when she would have been about 17, a photo of Georgianna judging Miss Newark Marine Corps listed her as “Miss Georgianna Franklin of the Star Ledger”.
In August, Georgianna had what may be her first byline, “Busman gives shorts a whirl” about Albert Rue, a bus driver who’d begun wearing shorts.
After that, she wrote regular articles including a Dec 1953 article helping her father announce his candidacy for Mayor.
In 1954, the Star Ledger declared, “Star Ledger Writer NJ’s Choice for Debutante Crown” as she represented NJ in the American Debutante’s Ball, crowned as NJ’s Debutante Queen.
In 1960, she was described as “a reporter and feature writer”.
The digital Star Ledger archive brings up at over 200 articles mentioning her, most which are bylines, from 1953-1970.
Georgianna was grew up at 566 Parker St. She was featured in the society columns of the Ledger and News as early as the 1930s. In 1960, she married William Brennan III, son of Justice Brennan.
