Founded the CHEN School. She was recognized as a visionary in the field of early childhood education. She was also the founding president of the Early Childhood Coalition of Newark.
President of the board of trustees of the Newark Public Library and as a trustee of the NJPAC Women’s Board Association. She was also a board member of Newark Emergency Services for Families and the Community Advisory Board of Thirteen/WNET.

Executive director of the Newark Day Center and The Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund for 32 years.

Founding member and vice chair of the National Congress of Black Women.
