Jennie Levell Lemon


Married to Tom Lemon in Newark in 1950. Listed as a waitress in 1930, and a WPA Investigator on the 1940 Census. In 1959, she was a senior account clerk in City Hall. She was an aide to Addonizio from 1962-1969.

Jennie ran for city council in 1969. She founded the Jennie Lemon Civic Association. She served as president of Zion Towers tenants association. She was active in the NAACP, serving in many roles, including as the county’s membership and political action chairmain. She advocated for minorities, senior citizens, and the disabled.

Born in Georgia, but lived in Newark from at least 1930.
